Liebe Kolleginnen und Kollegen,
dear colleagues,

you are cordially invited to attend on 23-24 February 2017 the strategy workshop

“The Future of Neutrino Physics: A German Perspective on Topics, Opportunities and Challenges"

This workshop (see https://www.mpi-hd.mpg.de/neutrinos/) is a joint initiative of the German committees for

  • astroparticle physics (KAT)
  • particle physics (KET)
  • hadron- and nuclear physics (KHuK).

and it will take place at the Max-Planck-Institut für Kernphysik in Heidelberg.

The purpose of the meeting is a broad presentation and discussion of topics, opportunities and challenges in neutrino physics. The presentations will cover various directions of neutrino physics aiming at comparing different physics cases, experimental techniques, interconnections and links to other topics going beyond neutrino physics. The discussions should help to form a consensual mid and long terms strategy of the German neutrino physics program. There will be ample of time for discussions after the talks, and especially at the end after all presentations. This workshop is part of a series of further joint workshops on other topics relevant to the three committees.

Workshop topics include:

  • theoretical motivations for new neutrino experiments
  • solar neutrinos
  • atmospheric neutrinos
  • reactor neutrinos
  • accelerator neutrinos
  • neutrinos in cosmology
  • neutrino astrophysics
  • direct mass measurements
  • neutrinoless double beta decays
  • sterile neutrino searches
  • searches beyond the SM
  • the physics of neutrino sources (supernova neutrinos, geo neutrinos, …)

The workshop will start on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at 12:30 and it will end on Friday, February 24 at 16:00.

For proper planning (coffee breaks, lunch, dinner, shuttle) we ask all participants to register as soon as possible at https://www.mpi-hd.mpg.de/neutrinos/. There will be no fee and coffee breaks and lunch on February 24 will be provided. All participants are also invited to join at their own expense a group dinner in the evening of February 23 (please specify participation upon registration). All participants are kindly asked to arrange accommodation by themselves. We suggest locations in the center of Heidelberg, in the old town or in Weststadt.
